People in Context

This workshop focuses on the techniques and insights needed to make meaningful images of people. It is ideal for photographers that want to capture the variety, psychology, and social interaction of people on film. You will learn a variety of ways to photograph individuals, including friends, family, and strangers, in such diverse settings as the home, the street, and the workplace. The workshop also explores ways of organizing environmental elements to make persuasive statements of and about people.

Key topics include the following:

- Ways of capturing character on film
- Methods of approaching and photographing strangers
- The use of light (both natural and flash) as an expressive and aesthetic element of the photograph
- Techniques of posing and interacting with subjects

The workshop will be presented in lectures, demonstrations, and photographic field trips to various local areas around Santa Barbara.
